Hikes

We periodically lead hikes at Sandy Lake Regional Park to showcase the park and describe how much more nature conservation is possible in this incredible area.

See below for hikes we are leading as the Sandy Lake - Sackville River Regional Park Coalition, and events led by Coalition partners at the park.

Summer 2026 hikes
Thursday, May 28 - evening

On this hike in partnership with HRM's Environment and Climate Change team, you will learn about a new invasive species that is coming to Sandy Lake and other HRM parks: Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. And you will learn about what is being done to reduce its impact.

July 9 - evening

During this event participants will see and learn about some of the aquatic insects in Sandy Lake. Then we will go for a swim!

Details and registration coming soon.

July 25 - morning

This guided hike, in partnership with Our HRM Alliance and Ecology Action Centre, will showcase some of the amazing natural features and species of the Sandy Lake Regional Park. We will also discuss the threats to the parks, and how the park can contribute to a more sustainable Halifax.
